Overview

A smaller world, the Grave of Heroes nonetheless holds an important spiritual role for servants of the Imperium in Eternum as it holds countless graves of heroes, guardsmen, adepts and more. Serving as the generalist cemetery for those who weren't selected or earmarked for one of the more specialized cemetery worlds, the quadrillions of Imperial servants who have been put to rest here has forced the planetary governing clergy to maximize space. This has resulted in hundreds of kilometers of catacombs extended in all directions, and large mausoleums built up from the most stable ground. The reality of the massive, unmapped catacombs is that all but a fraction go un-serviced, with only the most renowned hero's graves receiving maintenance from their local Mortuary-Enclave. These enclaves that lie deep within the catacombs are effectively self sufficient, with priests growing their own food in artificial farms and living their lives tending the dead as best they can. Mausoleums that stretch above the surface are much more well attended, and each has a Chapel for those who wish to pay respect to family, friends, or heroes buried deep in the catacombs but who are unable to make the trek to find their graves. Those who are brave enough to search the catacombs come armed and with enough supplies to survive long stretches, as the unending corpses, the poorly lit tunnels, and the isolation of the enclaves leads to foul xenos or worse festering in the reaches of the catacombs, and finding skeletons outside of graves comprised of those who tried to find a specific grave is all too common in the depths. The catacombs continue to snake down however, and the excavation tunnels are the safest bet for most who venture into the catacombs.
