Overview

A civilized desert world, Egykka's population centers straddle the mighty rivers of the world, rivers that stretch for hundreds of miles with varied width that can peak as wide as 90 miles. Egykka's culture centers around the rivers, though its expansive deserts have led to raised Guard regiments having extensive experience in desert environments.

Life on Egykka

The rivers of Egykka are the veins of life for the world, and these massive rivers are constantly fed by the only two mountain ranges on Egykka, long ridges that border the ocean and whose cool weather forces the humid ocean air into fresh water that floods down Egykka's rivers. These mountains are active tectonic features and thus every few years they suffer earthquakes and slight shifts that can send ~14550 mega liters of water down a river at once. The people of Egykka have built their cities around and even crossing these mighty rivers, and although their rockcrete foundations are solid enough to survive these swells the people caught in the flood aren't so resilient. Although these floods claim countless lives that drift further down the river with the city's garbage and industrial runoff, Egykkans still venerate the rivers as physical manifestations of the Emperor's benevolence, or the Emperor's wrath during a flood.

Outside the river-cities are mass stretches of featureless deserts, devoid of surface life save the occasional sandbeetle or other sand-swimming creatures. Rarely an oasis can be found in these expansive deserts, not enough to support any sizable population, but enough for a rest stop for those who either live outside the cities or are traveling from city to city - although almost all traffic travels by riverboat, crossing the ocean and traveling upstream to visit another river, rarely an individual may want to avoid the watchful eye of the river inspectors of the PDF, either for political reasons, secrecy, or smuggling, thus they'll strike out across the desert, hoping their fuel and supplies last long enough to get them where they're going. This is easier said than done, as there are no roads and the constantly shifting dunes, coupled with the unreliable magnetosphere, make finding your way exceedingly difficult. The Imperium does have a few planetside observation posts or mining outposts, but these are few and far between, with the only other desert bound structures being the isolated and secure tomb-vaults used by nobles, rogue traders, or Inquisitors who have items they want hidden from all who don't have exact coordinates. Egykka has a standard tithe of resources, items, and manpower, and the Egykkan Guard have a reputation for being exotic appearing with hieroglyphics adorning their armor, but also for being experts in desert warfare.
