A planet as ugly as it is deadly, Ferya is predominantly covered by swamps and marshes. Although most of the original records have been lost to time, Ferya was once a pleasant ocean covered world with a few archipelagos, though home to large quantities of edible algae and useful resources hidden under the sea. Millenia of mining, pollution, and uncontrolled farming slowly drained the bulk of the oceans, at the same time causing a runaway atmospheric breakdown that heated the planet more and more, eventually turning the world into a humid, swampy quagmire. The humidity and heat led to the breakdown of the forges and manufactorums, with the cost of repairs being more than simply moving production elsewhere, with the Mechanicus and skilled citizens abandoning the masses.
A unique death world, Ferya has no terrifying wildlife, plants, horrific weather, or warp taint, in fact, Ferya would be idyllic were it not for one fact the original colonists only learned when they attempted to travel off world for the first time; Ferya's tall orange yellow grasses and flora possess and saturate the atmosphere with a unique narcotic compound that slightly changes the genome of any who breathe it in or ingest it over the course of a couple days - the end result being a total dependency on this compound. Cardamine, as the compound is called, has utterly tainted the population of Ferya, with the only way to survive off world for the tainted being them bringing the gaseous form of Cardamine with them to breathe. Cardamine does have some beneficial effects however, extending the life of the addicted, causing euphoria and increased reaction times, though it also causes a lower libido, docileness, and aggression in some individuals. Life on Ferya is ruled by syndicates who control concentrated Cardamine distilleries. The vast majority of Ferya's population exist in a state of stupor, always searching for more concentrated Cardamine to either fight better or forget their lot, and this dependence on stronger versions of Cardamine allows the syndicates to maintain armies and workers. Ferya is a violent planet, with even the capital wrecked by constant syndicate wars over territory or refineries. Although nominally part of the Imperium, Ferya has little interest in the galaxy at large, and due to their unique conditions most tithes are likewise useless as Cardamine would have to be constantly supplied to off worlders. Thus the only tithes levied upon Ferya are Cardamine shipments (for Magos Biologis research) and fighter pilots who are also supplied Cardamine by the syndicates. The Imperial Navy does prize Ferya's pilots as their enhanced reaction times give them a significant edge in combat, though only a small amount can be raised owing to their dependence on a drug found only on one world. Ferya is left alone and allowed to govern itself (with the governor the Don of the most powerful syndicate) on three conditions: The tithe must always be met, Cardamine must not be exported to any but the Adeptus Mechanicus (though the more bold syndicates often smuggle it out anyway), and Eternum's nobility are allowed to banish individuals who are too connected to properly imprison or kill but too dangerous (or inconvenient) to let free, with a stipulation that the syndicates must not directly harm the banished. This has kept the peace, or at least kept the Imperium from cleansing the world, but were it not for the population being continually doped it very well would be a breeding ground for unrest and heretical cults.

The native life also changed as the world turned into swamp, and the few leftover cities on higher ground found themselves under siege from voracious ''Megators'' (massive reptiles whose jaws can crush a tank), massive ''Mouthflies'' (parasitic flies that lay their egg in the mouths of unlucky victims), ''Scythquitos'' (large flying insects with a proboscis that can pierce ceramite) and countless others. Forced to flee to the swamps, the survivors formed isolated fortresses to weather the constant assault by native life. The remaining humans on Ferya are incredibly resilient and well suited for difficult terrain, as they must fight both native life and the environment to keep their ramshackle fortresses safe another day. Ferya has no significant tithe, merely being required to provide occasional Guard regiments drafted from the best of the PDF. Food is abundant on Ferya, but the reality of life on the waterlogged surface precludes any proper farming that could contribute to the tithe, and also prevents the Imperial Governor (who oversees the world from the comfort of his orbital station) from ensuring tithe compliance through food - instead Ferya receives weapons or metals used in fortifications, and in exchange they ensure the world's only spaceport (situated on the tallest point, formerly the largest archipelago) stays safe and that the manpower tithe is satiated.

Overview
