Overview

Once the best of the then Crimson Hammer, Santo was once a bustling civilized world filled with all manner of warrior artisans, boasting more aspirants who reached great heights as chapter master and captains than any other recruitment world of the Hammer. The world shined as a pinnacle of everything embodied by the Crimson Hammer, thus it was a significant target for the foul followers of the ruinous powers. During the First Poxwar, at the height of the Rotbelchers's and their follower's offensive, they invaded Santo with a massive invasion force. This offensive was so overwhelming that even with foreknowledge of the attack, the defenders (Guard regiments and forces from the Crimson Hammer) were slowly pushed back to the only remaining spaceport as the virulent contagions brought by the Rotbelchers infested the very soul of the world. With a heavy heart, the Crimson Hammer began a fighting retreat to regroup with available Imperial forces dug in at the Shield of Absolution, eventually leaving the world behind. Although reinforcements from Battlefleet Eternum arrived they were too late to save the world, and thus the Crimson Hammer itself declared exterminatus upon the world, with the strike cruiser Oathbearer firing the cyclonic torpedoes that spared the world from a far worse fate than death. The world has laid dead since, a barren and fragmented airless planet all that remains.
