Overview

A one of a kind world in Eternum, Shiron is the only world to contain a population consisting of ratlings. The diminutive ratlings have lived on Shiron as long as Imperial records show, and life for ratlings is idyllic, living in close knit communities called Shires. These Shires and their ratlings live their days farming, cooking, and hunting, and their cooking is legendary in the sector for nobles who grow tired of their house cooks- a common, though expensive, trip for Eternum's well-to-do nobles is to travel and stay on Shiron to sample their local delicacies while trying to bribe a ratling chef to join their retinue. It is a mark of pride for the sector nobles to have a ratling cook, though they're kept away from guests and treated more like an exhibit then a human. The ratlings of Shiron are also excellent hunters, a trademark of their kind and one valued highly by sector Militarum command - in addition to Shiron's agricultural tithe, ratlings are commonly raised to fight the Imperium's enemies, mostly formed from volunteers, this was not always the case. Prior to the Hyacinthum heresy on Tetuanis that spilt over to Shiron when the plague champion Spidde the Bloated invaded in an attempt to infest Tetuanis's food supply, the plague cult infected many Shires before they were stopped by a ragtag militia made up of ratling hunters and a commissar and his Guard company investigating the recent reports of attack, since this invasion of their paradise the ratlings have voluntarily joined the guard, though they also view it as a way to 'appropriate and liberate' the belongings of Guardsmen and attached units, bringing their spoils back if they survive their tours. As such, Shiron also has a decently sized black market, with stolen lasguns, uniforms or armor, boltguns, even the occasional plasma gun or vehicle part. Ratlings are formed into special sniper squads and normally assigned to a master regiment for a campaign, though they're generally segregated due to their abhuman status and thievery - this hasn't stopped guardsmen from enjoying the ratlings culinary expertise, and they often trade and barter for dishes that manage to make rations or corpse starch edible.
