Overview

A heavily polluted lower gravity hive world, Mannskester is surrounded with asteroids and scrap constantly mined by the inhabitants of its many hives.

Mining

Mannskester is surrounded with asteroids and scrap from industrial dumping or battles long past that orbit at low altitude before eventually entering the scattered upper atmosphere, being slowed down over several decades before they lose enough velocity and fall to the ground. These asteroids, meteorites, and scrapheaps are filled with useful resources and materials, and thus the industry of this hive world is geared around capturing those that enter the atmosphere and securing them with large grav-tethers and adamantine chains to mining spires. As the objects are mined for the most valuable ore first, they're sent further and further down the mining spire until the bottom spire is harvesting materials for simple rockcrete.

The massive amount of mining asteroids and other captured objects outputs large clouds of brown tinted dust which slowly falls to the ground, coating the surface and those too poor to afford a higher place in the hives. This also causes the world to have a permanent brownish-red tint, and visibility is poor at all times, only the red and yellow warning lamps on the spires visible from other spires. An individual's status and class in society is determined by the mining clan they belong to, the larger the spire and haul, and the more concurrent harvesting happening, the higher their place in Mannskester. All miners in a clan adapt the clan's name as their surname, with their former surname becoming their middle name. The planetary governor is the leader of the most productive mining clan, which for the last 600 years has been the Ishimuras, currently led by governor Isaac Ishimura Ishimura (when their surname already belonged to the clan, they use the clan name twice), who has led Mannskester to new heights of production and vastly improved the world's status in the sector.

Mannskester Hooligans

Mannskester provides guard regiments in addition to their resource tithe, with Mannskester's Hooligan regiments having to permanently wear tinted goggles to protect their eyes and cloth to cover their skin - their lives in the dark tinted hives of Mannskester causing their eyes to evolve to low light, normal light found on other worlds can lead to scarring, burns, and permanent blindness. This medical necessity does not endear them to other guard, and more than once has a Hooligan regiment been the recipient of friendly fire when they were mistaken for cultists. Hooligan regiments are skilled at quickly moving through rocky terrain in low light or pitch black conditions, a result of the requirements of mining captured rotating asteroids on their homeworld.
