Overview
A particularly odd mining world, Karava is the size of a gas giant and filled with plentiful minerals critical to ship construction, though it is missing its core - kept together only through mysterious archeotech that replaced its natural core. The archeotech also possesses 8 massive elevator shafts that allow easy access to mineral deposits and allow easy transfer of mined resources to the 8 massive cargo landing pads on the surface. Miners live on the level they mine, with very few ever seeing the surface. Organizationally each level comprises a Mineral Clan named after their level's predominant mineral, with each Clan having a Clan Overseer selected by the traditions of that Mineral Clan (from election to inheritance to trial by combat or a mining competition). Clans increase in standing and importance the closer they are to the core, but each Clan Overseer is part of the Clanmoot Council which reports to the planetary governor, the Overseer of the Core. Each Clan is in charge of its own security, though the PDF (who answers to the Governor) is used if a clan either loses control or steps out of line. Karava does have occasionally miner revolts or interclan wars, but overall heresy itself is rare. The world's tithe is mainly resources for the Imperial Navy and Hive Worlds of Gothar, but it is also required to supply excess manpower to the Imperium and occasional Guard regiments. The Karavan Clan Sapper Regiments are well regarded by other Imperial regiments for their resolute and friendly nature coupled with their skill in sapping enemy fortifications and dense close quarters combat.
