Overview
A hive world in the periphery of the Gothar subsector, Darkkhan is distant but nonetheless important for Battlefleet Eternum. Darkkhan is home to a large orbital ring that has survived from the Dark Age of Technology to the current era, and this "Potsdam Ring" has produced countless escort class ships through its massive shipyards staffed by hordes of menials and engineers from the hives of Darkkhan. The Potsdam Ring is so large it casts a constant shadow on the planet and is directly connected to the massive hive spires that allow the workers access every shift. These Ring Elevators and unknown lost technologies keep the Ring in stationary orbit, with the shadows only changing due to the planet's natural orbit. As a result of the Potsdam Ring, these shadows darken large swathes of Darkkhan and thus only the exceedingly wealthy can afford to live in natural light, all other citizens must hope to catch a glimpse of real light during their work shift on the Ring or pay a significant amount of Thrones to receive a small amount of time in Sundomes that dot the planet.
The Potsdam Ring produces or repairs many escort frigates every few months, a few light cruisers yearly, and a proper cruiser every few years for the Imperial Navy, with the rest of production going towards simpler System Defense Fleets or private buyers. On top of their ship production tithe, Darkkhan also provides a large number of Naval ratings and laborers for the Navy. These individuals are preferred to traditional Naval impressments as living on Darkkhan where the sun rarely shines and light is limited to poorly maintained lumen globes readies the bulk of the population for the dark corridors of void-life. Like most of the Navy's lower class conscripts, Darkkhanites recruited to ships will never see their world again unless their ship is sent to the Potsdam Ring for repairs or refitting, instead joining the deck-clans that have lived and died for centuries on the Imperial ships they serve. Although Darkkhan is a dreary world their craftsmanship is incredibly well regarded by those who have commanded her ships, and seeing Potsdam Ring as the shipwraight is a reassuring sight for any appointed captain or officers.
