Overview

Once a shrine world sucked through the warp during the Bubonic Rift's expansion, Esses Est now exists in a permanent state of ritual decay. Cathedrals still stand, but their bells toll on their own, rung by bloated corpses swollen with sacred plagues. The soil itself is consecrated to rot — every burial births new shambling hosts within hours. Esses Est is a particularly sore sticking point for Eternum's Ecclesiarchy, with dogma pointing to the world's cardinal as source of the taint - Cardinal Marith Mallon. Cardinal Mallon's incredibly loose interpretation of the Imperial Creed, coupled with their predilection for shirking their duties in favor of gluttony and bouts of docentcy made them an easy target for the daemons of Nurgle. Approached before the Bubonic Rift infected Eternum, Cardinal Mallon was given the choice between serving Nurgle and living or painful death, and unfortunately for the souls on the former Shrine World, she chose their life. Replacing Imperial Hymnals with corrupted diseased perversions, the planet emitted a taint that the Bubonic Rift answered, dooming the world. The daemons of Nurgle honored their deal, and the still alive form of once-Cardinal Mallon stretches over the former Imperial temple screeching corrupted litanies in agony millennia later.
