Overview

A verdant green world, Lufkraft has an incredibly pleasant climate, with little inclement weather, and plenty of plains that teem with flora and fauna. In fact, Lufkraft would be a paradise world for those who would settle it, were it not for its incredibly dangerous and deadly spores that have earned it the classification of Forbidden World.

Lufkraft's Spores

Lufkraft's most notable feature is the native Lufkratian Exustio Mortis Glomerorum, translated directly as melting death spores, which permeate the atmosphere covering most of the world and moving with the wind. These death spores have evolved with the ecosystem of Lufkraft, and have a mutualistic relationship with the native plant and animal life, though to anything born outside Lufkraft they are among the most terrifying organisms in the sector, so corrosive and toxic they can burn through gas filters in a matter of minutes, even eating their way through power armor or void ship hulls until they reach something organic - at which point, befitting their name, they germinate and begin consuming the organic material, slowly rendering the victim to a slurry of Exustio Mortis Glomerorum spores, a terrible fate.

The Imperium has declared Lufkraft off-limits after the first unfortunate survey party landed and survived long enough to send a pict-grab of their fate, though this, and the orbiting defense platforms and warning buoys does not completely deter the incredibly greedy and foolish, as captured Exustio Mortis Glomerorum spores fetch an inordinately high price in the black market as an exotic poison or as a research curiosity of the Mechanicus Genators. Harvesting operations are brutal and deadly, with would be spore-catchers firing incendiary weapons at an isolated region first, then sending slaves down to deploy a voidshield while they rapidly harvest the mature, less toxic and fireproof adult version of the fungus. They have only minutes from landing to harvest before spores move back in, and occasionally one or more spore clouds survive the incendiary bombing to infest the unlucky spore-catchers, and even if they manage to take off, all it takes is one spore on the outside of the ship that escapes their landing crafts fire-scrubbing upon return to eat whatever crew are nearby.

Luckily for the Imperium and life everywhere, these spores cannot reproduce off Lufkraft and will quickly burn themselves out if released outside Lufkraft, and even the very valuable death-spore black market poison has a limited shelf life - it will slowly eat through any container tried so far, and once out latch onto the nearest organic life before eating it and dying off. Black marketers and assasins must be quick as a result, for if they don't deploy their poison quick enough it will turn on them or any unfortunate soul nearby- still, it is prized for its qualities that assure death in all but the most resilient or lucky individuals (very rarely, the fungus may burn out and only consume a limb or part of the body, turning it to a lifeless pile of goo but the person otherwise alive), and for no known treatment or medicine that can stop it , while also being near untrackable. Due to the deadly fungus and its black market value, Lufkraft's system is occasionally patrolled and any ships not bearing a writ of safe passage are destroyed.
