Overview

The most educated Hive world in Gothar, arguably in Eternum, Persephon possesses significant amounts of Scholas including some of the sector's most renowned Schola Progeniums. Persephon has an even more stark class contrast than an average hive world, with four tiers of social rank (and literal tier in the hive proper), the dregs (the lowest rungs of society but the largest, dregs have no opportunity for education or serious advancement save enlisting in the guard or incredible luck and skill), the menials (a small step above the dregs, menials make up the bulk of adepts and have access to basic trade scholas that train them in their vocation), the uphivers (here lie most of the Schola Progeniums and more generalist Scholas, with uphivers themselves being skilled or educated labor), and nobles (who have the most prestigious Scholas and Schola Progeniums). Like the rest of the Imperium, the Schola Progeniums are reserved for the orphans of those who loyally served the Imperium, with the rest of Persephon's citizens attending Scholas managed by the hive world or privately.

Most of Persephon's Schola Progeniums follow the teachings of the famed (on Persephon) Headmaster Horst Karl-Gasterdatz who emphasized strict standards and harsh corporal punishment, while a few unique Scholas use an alternative training regime that's less regimented. All of the Scholas have produced heroes of Eternum, Imperial Guard officers, Commissars, Sororitas, and even Inquisitors. Each Schola Progenium generally specializes in a regime designed to produce a specific outcome, like Schola Caine's Commissar focused education, or Schola Trenchkar's Stormtrooper focused education. While the unorphaned citizens of Persephon do not attend the Schola Progeniums, their own Scholas often mirror the regimen of them and likewise focus on one or more vocations, some focus on training tomorrow's merchants, others administration or bureaucracy, with the most elite training the next governor and generation of nobles. Persephon is lower on the list of targets for the Imperium's enemies, but heretical cults have attempted to infiltrate Scholas in the past to corrupt the young and create sleeper agents, thus the Hive maintains a force of investigators called the Schola Prefectus whose duties include protecting the array of Scholas and investigating heretical behavior. Officially they are part of the PDF, though they always appear to avoid the manpower tithe Persephon owes to the Imperium, allowing the more generalist troopers to serve as Persephon's tithe.
