Overview

The oldest shrine world in Eternum, Saint Bazil holds the heart of the sector's ecclesiarchy. Named after the Imperial Saint Ariette Bazil, long ago stirred up the world's populace to overthrow the heretical warhost that had seized half of the Caligulas subsector and, although she managed to slay the traitorous commander that led the warhost, fell to the same traitor's trap that buried her alive in plasteel and rockcrete. The Ecclesiastical ministers that fought with her canonized her and her rockcrete tomb, leading to the world's revival as a shrine to martyrs of the Imperium. Saint Bazil provides large numbers of crusaders for Imperial forces in the sector, as well as devout priests who embolden Imperial forces. The most fervent crusaders and priests are chosen from the world's most exalted anchorites - individuals who seal themselves into specially constructed cells in Churches or shrineposts amongst the cities. These anchorites never leave their self imposed cells nor look outside, eating only modest food delivered by adepts of the Church, sequestering themselves in constant prayer and purification rituals (some by touching flame, some by candle, some by self flagellation and many other rituals), occasionally dispensing religious advice and consul. Once the anchorite has reflected long enough (only they know when they're ready, some waiting decades in isolation) they will leave the cell to join the great crusaders of Saint Bazil, each traveling to where they and the Ecclesiarchy believe they're needed most. These anchorite crusaders continue their solace in war, only speaking in prayers and litanies while they slaughter the enemies of the God-Emperor. This is a quality the Inquisition, some Guard commanders, governors, and even Rogue Traders prize highly, for as long as the crusaders believe their charge is pure they will not divulge secrets or partake in political games, though if their charge falters at all they're quick to turn their powerswords on those who tempt corruption. Saint Bazil also is the home of the Order of the Last Candle, who canonize Saint Bazil, and safeguard her world and Eternum at large.
