Overview

Uliastai lies on the border of Makerus, and though it is outside the Shattered Worlds Belt the world occasionally is targeted by raiders or other denizens who hide in the Belt. Uliastai possesses large island chains, linked together by massive ocean-bridges that pass car and rail traffic. Most travel is ground based, as Uliastai possesses native Xenos life that makes air travel a dangerous affair. These Xenos, commonly called Gremlins, are avian like creatures that travel in small groups, hiding in clouds and preying on anything that draws near. Possessing an instinctive draw to critical components like hydraulic lines or fuel valves, Gremlins eat the copper wiring and metal plating, feeding themselves while dooming whatever hapless aircraft they've targeted. Even Valkyrie travel can be risky if the gunners aren't prepared, though the spaceport is protected by a large series of motive force generators that keep gremlins away from cargo haulers and shuttles from space. The sole spaceport possesses the most advanced technology on Uliastai, and the rest of the world must either rely on slower ground traffic or dangerous and heavily armed filters. Although not as frequently targeted as other worlds near the Shattered Worlds Belt, Uliastai occasionally finds itself the target of a large xenos or even heretic raid. These raids target the world's plentiful resource stores, and though casualties are often high the Uliastai PDF have fought each attack off successfully through their older pattern tanks and armored tractors. This has not gone unnoticed by the Munitorum, and Uliastai Thundertread Regiments are known for their resilience and close combat engagements, though they suffer at range.
