Overview
Baruun-Ort is a rogue planet, a world that has been cast out of whatever system it once orbited and left to roam the void. Settled at some point during the Dark Age of Technology, it is unknown if Baruun-Ort was colonized before or after it was cast out, but ancient archeotech maintained the planet's core and temperature through unknown arcane technologies. These same archeotech devices keep Baruun-Ort alive today, and the stewards of Filimars ensure its machine spirit is appeased so it can continue to serve as a crucial resource world.
Baruun-Ort roams the Rust Nebula and over millennia has had the rare elements hidden in the nebula accumulate on her surface, forming rich deposits of materials hard to find elsewhere. The Mechanicus has taken full advantage of this, and using hordes of menials and servitors to constantly mine the planet's riches at the same time new veins accumulate slowly. Life on Baruun-Ort is lonely even when surrounded by fellow miners as no sun graces its skies, only lumenglobes and the dim light of distant stars light it. The surface of Baruun-Ort is exceedingly dark, and although it possesses a breathable atmosphere thanks to its mysterious archeotech, it is otherwise lifeless with nothing but long stretches of road and rail connecting mining bases with nothing else besides dark rocks and dark ground. The conditions on Baruun-Ort have caused numerous uprisings from disaffected miners who cannot handle the crushing depths of the void, but beyond the Skittarii defending the archeotech itself the PDF is responsible for defense from within and the odd xenos that hide in the depths of the Rust Nebula. Baruun-Ort's tithe is predominantly mineral based, though it is expected to provide a small amount of regiments. The Baruun-Ort Nightcrawlers are effective recon regiments who excel at night warfare and reconnaissance, though struggle in worlds that have bright nights and standard days.
