An Imperial Guard regiment from the pleasure world Carriboet, the Toxos regiments are easily identified by their omnipresent chem-breathers.

Overview

Chosen from the undercitizens who live and work in Carriboet's Thermal Regulation Complex (a massive city like collection of machinery that spans the equator), the Carriboet Toxos Infantry regiments are known for their omnipresent chemical filled breathers and skill in dangerous chemical filled toxic and lethally hot environments. The Thermal Regulation Complex, more often referred to as Thereg by its inhabitants, maintains a comfortable temperature for the surface of Carriboet and its many buildings, the price of this is its machinery constantly bathing in dangerous chemicals and poisonous gasses. The Toxos are born in this mire, and adaptations over generations of living there have granted them an immense resistance to poisons, toxic environments, and extreme heat and cold. This comes at a cost, and their bodies are so adapted to the thermo regulation gasses that they will suffer a fatal withdrawal when deprived of it. As such, none leave the complex except for the Toxos, who must always wear their chem-breathers that supply a constant supply of the thermogas, the only time they can take off the chem-breathers is when they setup a forward base with specially designed tents that hold in the noxious fluid. Toxos are viewed as unhinged by fellow Guard regiments, and are generally solitary regiments that keep to themselves. In addition to excelling in hostile environments, Toxos have a knack for scavenging and kludging together fixes for their equipment, although this almost always draws comparisons to ork technology when viewed by other Guardsmen. Toxos are not trusted by any sensible commander, but their loyalty is ensured by the simple fact that without the Imperium, they would quickly run out of their thermo gas that keeps them alive (and mildly insane).
