Overview
Located in the same system as Tetuanis in the Confedus subsector, Osea is a very peculiar moon that is covered in a ice sheet, with massive oceans hiding underwater mountain ranges underneath. Settled millennia ago, the only structures visible from space are the landing spires that jut up from the encroaching ice, spires that lead down to massive city-complexes underwater. Osea possesses a unique mineral called Accetilate that vastly increases the efficiency of forges, and this mineral draws scores of off-worlders to immigrate to Osea to try their luck and get rich by finding a large vein. This mineral is difficult to mine, and massive tunnels snake underneath the cities, with underwater mining outposts commonly accessible only by submarine travel. Beyond the difficulty of mining in caverns surrounded by crushing tons of water (with any poorly chosen dig capable of flooding the chamber with lethally cold water), Osea possesses a unique microbial lifeform known as Oxyalgea. Normally found in the ocean as a harmless organism, but occasionally found dormant in the rocks nearby Accetilate, Oxyalgea will rapidly reproduce when exposed to open air oxygen and quickly, within tens of seconds of exposure, consume all the oxygen in a room leaving only a fatal mixture of gasses that cause an unimaginably painful death to any unfortunate enough to be unprotected. As such, the miners of Osea, or those too poor to afford to live in a sheltered area, wear reinforced rebreathers with supplied oxygen, with miners becoming intimately familiar with their masks, structural integrity, and the bulkheads used to separate caves to avoid a full oxygen flareout by the time they reach adolescence. However, cheap materials and one moment of laxity can lead to rebreather failure and as such a culture of martyrdom has emerged-countless songs are sung in taverns of a miner giving his air supply to a superior to save them, and all these traits carry over to the Osean Sapper regiments that are raised for the Guard. Clad in blue coats, colored after the blue sheen found in all of Osea's caves, and wearing reinforced gas masks, Osean Sappers have earned a reputation for being fearless, unbreakable combat engineers that serve well as an attachment to a more generalized regiment. Particularly popular to Eternum's generals, the 14th Osean Sappers have proven themselves over and over again.
