Overview
Originally a colder temperate world with a minor Ecclesiastical order, the world was turned into the resting site of the countless Imperials lost defending Caligulas and the Aural Front. Almost every Imperial institution can be found represented by endless rows of mausoleums, graves, and catacombs holding the remains of the faithful. Burial sites vary from ostentatious mausoleums holding the embalmed corpses of Inquisitorial agents, well off nobles, Ecclesiarchy priests, and other notable individuals to the Regimental tombs holding the collected bones and other remnants of regiments that died protecting the Aural Gate, to the simpler graveyards holding adepts and others who died in service of the Gate's defense. Funeral ships constantly ferry new remains from the front to the Aural Rest, and the intricate catacombs and grave-complexes grow larger every day. The Aural Rest is vaunted by loyal Imperials for here the dead are believed to be closer to the Emperor's Light than anywhere else in Eternum, thus dying wishes of most who served on the Aural Front are to be buried on this world. The world is also a tempting target to the traitors of the Rotbelchers and their minions, the proximity and the ability to defile an Imperium holy site by turning the dead against their former compatriots turns the Aural Rest into a very appealing target, one they've attempted multiple times. Militarum Command recognizes this threat and the risk to morale losing such an important site would pose to the defenders of the Aural Gate, and thus stations several defensive regiments on the planet at any given time. These regiments compliment the Ecclesiastical forces present, including the Undying Crusaders and the Aural Honor Guard from the Order of the Last Candle, ensuring that if the servants of Chaos attempt to corrupt the cemetery world, they will pay dearly. These fights would take place on the surface and in the catacombs, for the Imperial Navy leaves orbital defenses to the pilgrim fleets and system defense forces and they stand little chance against even the smallest proper Chaos fleet. Officially justifying it as needing the fleet to defend the Aural Front in its entirety, the more callous view is that the Imperial Navy would prefer to defend Templehof, where their dead rest. Were it not for the traitor's desire to corrupt the world, little could stop a traitor cruiser from orbital bombardment, though then their only victory would be slight desecration instead of total sacrilege.
